The Seasons of Shedding
Apr 04, 2025
Life moves in seasons—so do we.
This morning, as I was journaling, a thought came to me. It felt like something I needed to share, especially for anyone moving through a hard season right now.
Nature is a perfect mirror of our own cycles. Trees and birds have seasons. A time to soar, a time to flourish. And a time to rest, shed, and be still.
I’ve always been fascinated by how the trees around the lake look so bare, cold, and lifeless in the winter—and yet come spring, they’re vibrant and full again.
We’re no different.
We also have seasons.
But unlike nature, our “bare” seasons aren’t often acknowledged.
No one teaches us how to honor the times when we’re low, tired, or uncertain.
Instead, we hear things like:
-
“Be strong.”
-
“Push through.”
-
“There’s nothing wrong with you.”
-
“Stop complaining.”
But maybe what we need to hear is:
-
“This is your season to rest.”
-
“This is your season of change.”
-
“This is your season of shedding.”
If we were taught that this was normal—necessary, even—we’d be kinder to ourselves.
We’d move through life with more grace and patience.
Here’s what I’m learning:
This space I’m in right now is just as necessary as any future high.
All living things move forward—progress or regress—but there’s no true stillness. So even when I feel “stuck,” I know I’m still moving. Still becoming.
My choices, thoughts, and actions have led me here. And even if mistakes played a part, this moment still holds purpose.
Because I was created with intention.
And every single season is part of becoming who I’m meant to be.
So if you’re in a hard season, maybe this is your shedding.
The quiet before the bloom.
The rest before the rise.
When your spring comes, enjoy it fully.
But remember—it’s okay when the next shedding comes.
It’s part of the cycle.
Keep moving forward. Keep creating a life with purpose.
You’re never alone.
